The Office of New Student and Family Engagement strives to assist students and their families in making a smooth transition into life at DePaul. They do this by providing a holistic orientation experience for all new students and families as well as connecting students and families to services, resources, and engagement opportunities necessary to successfully navigate the University. They also introduce students and parents to DePaul values and traditions through orientations, large-scale events and other types of programming.
As an Advisory Board member, my position consists of creating community with the student leaders in the program. With hundreds of student leaders actively doing things, there never is time to get to know co workers. I look into events for 139 students to participate in and execute the best solutions from there. This position is achieved by involvement in leadership positions through the office including its Orientation Leader and Chicago Quarter Mentor.
Before this, I was an Orientation Leader in the office who worked directly with new students during the Freshmen Orientation program, Premiere DePaul, throughout the summer. There I played a critical role in implementing orientation as a valuable resource to new students and their family members during the transition to college life at DePaul. Only 24 selected dynamic and mature undergraduate leaders to serve
Chicago Quarter Mentors are an essential part of the Chicago Quarter Program and serve as a resource to new students through their transition to DePaul University. More specifically, Chicago Quarter Mentors work with Professional Staff to deliver the Common Hour component of the Chicago Quarter course. Chicago Quarter Mentors work collaboratively with faculty and professional staff members to plan, deliver, and facilitate the broader curriculum of the assigned course. Chicago Quarter Mentors also connect with new students as a peer resource, both inside and outside of the classroom.
Because of my past experience and advisory position, I had the amazing opportunity to create a new college curriculum inspired by my work.
